Musings – Fatima Shahzad

By  |

Some autumn evenings

I wish to walk

with a poet

through yellowed woods

and orange leaves,

and sync with his sighs

my heartbeats;

On rainy mornings

I want to be the poet

with a lover

in my arms,

and a poem

on my lips.

Fatima Shahzad is a recent graduate in Gender Studies from SOAS University of London. She studies History at the undergraduate level from Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University. With little literary grounding, she is nevertheless drawn to the realm of poetry through the works of authors like Sylvia Plath, Emily Dickinson and Faiz Ahmad Faiz. Though she usually writes poetry in English, she is beginning to experiment with Urdu poetry as well.
